Classic Canadian Dish: Butter Tarts
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup maple syrup
- 1/2 cup raisins or nuts (optional)
- 12 prepared pastry shells
Instructions
- Whisk together butter, brown sugar, and salt. Stir in vanilla, eggs, and maple syrup until just combined, being careful not to overmix. Chill mixture in the fridge for 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F. Place prepared tart shells on a baking tray. If using raisins, and/or nuts add to the bottom of the crusts. Stir the filling and spoon it to fill the shells three-quarters full.
- Bake for 25–30 minutes until filling is set. Cool slightly in a pan on a rack. Remove while still warm. Tarts should firm up in a few hours.
