Birds and Beef: Environmental Partnership

Speaker: Dr. Christian Artuso was the Manitoba Director for Bird Studies Canada (https://bsc-eoc.org/). Dr. Artuso is devoted to the conservation of prairie grasslands and the many species that call this ecosystem home, which includes some of Canada’s most threatened.

We often hear how growing or raising our food has damaging affects on our planet, leaving environmentalists at odds with farmers. In this 12 minute mini-lecture, Dr. Christian Artuso of Birds Canada brings his perspective to the table for discussion, exploring how agriculture and conservationists can partner to secure and protect fragile grassland ecosystems. Conservation can be well served by an agricultural land use that recognizes the association between native fauna and the benefits of agriculture.
