Pasture
Our tour will begin with a drive through Saskatchewan farmland to a pasture on the banks of the South Saskatchewan rivers. On the way, our farmer guide will point out various crops grown in Saskatchewan including canola, flax, wheat, barley and pulses, as well as other points of interest. Once we arrive, we will meet Rancher Shelby Corey and learn about her family’s cattle operation and how they care for their animals.
Perogies
From there we will travel back to Saskatoon for lunch at Canada’s only drive-thru perogy restaurant – Baba’s Homestyle Perogies – for an authentic perogy, cabbage roll and sausage meal.
Egg processing
After lunch, we will visit Star Egg where eggs from 65 local farmers are graded and packaged for the shell eggs market in Western Canada. We will follow the egg from arriving fresh from the farm through grading, cleaning, packaging and marketing. Star Egg will also share about a new high protein egg snack food they have developed.
This tour is hosted by Farm & Food Care SK and Canadian Food Focus.

Experiences
Shelby Corey’s Ranch
Shelby and her family run a cattle ranch in the RM of Montrose southwest of Saskatoon. She’s been working her whole life in agriculture—on the farm as well as in agribusiness, rural development and in organizations such as Saskatchewan 4-H. She says one of the best things about working in the ag sector is that “it is so diverse, yet so interconnected. There is always something to learn!”
As a longtime cattle rancher, it’s no surprise that Shelby’s favourite food from Saskatchewan is a great steak and her favourite kind of farm equipment is a good horse!
Star Egg Company
Star Egg Company Ltd. is a Saskatoon-based business that specializes in the grading, distribution and marketing of shell eggs. Owned and operated by the Harman family of Humboldt, Saskatchewan, Star Egg’s state-of-the-art facility ensures that the eggs they produce are safe and oh-so-nutritious. We will visit this processing plant in the heart of the prairies to learn how Grade A eggs get from the farm to the grocery store.

Clinton Monchuk grew up on a mixed dairy, beef and grain family farm outside of Lanigan, Saskatchewan. He received his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture majoring in Agricultural Economics from the University of Saskatchewan in 2000 and Masters of Business Administration in Agriculture from the University of Guelph in 2002.
After completing his master’s degree, Clinton conducted research and taught at the Universidad de Guadalajara, in Guadalajara, Mexico. Following his interest in the livestock industry, Clinton worked with the Western Beef Development Centre as a Beef Economist. This experience allowed him to become the Director of Trade Policy for the Canadian Federation of Agriculture in Ottawa.
In 2007, Clinton and his wife Laura moved to Saskatoon where he became the Chief Executive Officer for the Chicken Farmers of Saskatchewan and Saskatchewan Hatching Egg Producers. In 2016, Clinton accepted the role of Executive Director with Farm & Food Care Saskatchewan to promote farming, ranching and agri-food to consumers.
Clinton understands the value of increasing public trust in agriculture and actively promotes engagement between the agriculture industry and consumers. Clinton, Laura and their children Jackson and Katelyn, continue to be active partners on their family grain farm in Saskatchewan and cattle ranch in Oklahoma.
