Canadian Flavours: Exploring Canadian Cuisine from the 1940s to the 2020s
We are partnering with Dietitians of Canada during Nutrition Month 2025, themed “Nourish to Flourish,” to offer an exciting presentation on Canadian cuisine and flavours. Our Managing Director, Dorothy Long will take dietitians on a culinary journey exploring the evolution of Canadian cuisine from the 1940s to the 2020s, showcasing the country’s rich gastronomic heritage and its transformation over the decades.

Dorothy will guide dietitians through a fascinating exploration of Canadian food history through the decades to explore the evolution of Canadian cuisine from wartime resourcefulness to modern-day innovation. From the Indigenous roots and European influences that shaped our culinary heritage to the multicultural flavours and sustainable practices that define our contemporary food scene, this presentation delves into the rich history and diversity of Canadian food. Dorothy will share iconic Canadian recipes, regional specialties, and the stories behind them as we celebrate the unique flavours and traditions that make Canadian cuisine so distinct.

Dorothy Long is a passionate advocate for Canadian food and farming with over 25 years of experience connecting consumers to agriculture. A Saskatchewan farm girl turned home economist, Dorothy has developed national agrifood marketing campaigns, organized farm tours for food influencers, served as the Executive Director of Cuisine Canada and co-authored the Discover the Pulse Potential cookbook. As Managing Director of Canadian Food Focus, she leads efforts to improve food literacy and public trust in Canadian agriculture and food. In 2023, Dorothy was inducted into the Saskatchewan Agriculture Hall of Fame for her contributions to the industry.
