How do Farmers Protect the Soil?

Anyone want to go back to the 1930s and farm in foot-deep-dust? Me neither. Farming practices and advancements in technology have allowed farmers to reduce or eliminate the need to plow their land to prepare it for planting. Because we can directly plant our crops and place our fertilizer into the soil without disturbing it a great deal, it doesn’t blow away. Our family farm started minimal and zero tillage practices in 1996 and this has resulted in increase soil organic matter and an abundance of earthworms! With climate change becoming increasingly important, managing our soil is key to our current and future success.
