Research continues to reveal gaps in consumer awareness of farming practices and the tools used to grow food.
This can lead to tighter regulations, increased costs, and less innovation and adoption of sustainable practices that improve food production and reduce environmental impact.
Food is our common ground and the most intimate way consumers experience agriculture. Food is where we need to begin our conversation with consumers.
Canadian Food Focus has built a platform for farmers to share their stories and provide consumers with relatable information about Canadian food and agriculture.
Canadian Food Focus connects consumers to their food and the farmers that produce it.
Established in 2019, CFF is an extensive national consumer outreach program that represents agriculture and focuses on what Canadians want to know about their food. Each month, CFF averages over 1M engagements, 500 video views and 80,000 website visits.

“The need for accessible, clear and credible information about food has never been greater.”
Canadian Food Focus Strategy
CFF is a sophisticated content strategy built around a deep understanding of consumer needs, belief systems, values and the information they’re searching for related to food and health.

Consumers have questions about sustainability, fertilizers, pesticides, GMOs and issues such as animal welfare, climate change, migrant workers… We do address these topics. We lead with food to start the conversation and position ourselves as the go-to place for information on Canadian food.“

Canadian Food Focus is making agriculture accessible to all Canadians
Canadian Food Focus is:
- exclusively dedicated to urban audiences who have little exposure to food production or farming.
- appealing because it focuses on topics that matter to consumers – not what the industry thinks they need to hear.
- easy to use. Material is presented in carefully curated bite-sized pieces paired with recipes and food insights that consumers are searching for.

Canadian Food Focus’ website and social media statistics grow exponentially each year
- over 250% increase in followers each year since 2020
- 55,000 returning website users from 2023 to 2024
- 66% growth in engagements in the last year
- over 300 new newsletter subscribers monthly with an average 49 % open rate

For the first time nationally, a consumer engagement program is reaching Canadians in major urban centres with information about food and agriculture.
CFF is engaging urban consumers to improve food literacy from farm to grocery store to table.

Consumers just don’t know who to talk to. They have questions about how their food is produced and don’t have a farmer they can ask. What farmers need from the industry is their support for a platform like Canadian Food Focus that gives consumers the information they need. Putting a face to this business we call agriculture can make a huge difference.

Canadian Food Focus is a national non-profit with the goal of improving food literacy of Canadian consumers from farm-gate to plate. We explore how food is grown and raised and provide useful advice from experts to help people make confident food choices.
Canadian Food Focus is supported by Farm & Food Care SK, a not-for-profit organization that represents farm families and food producers. We also work closely with Farm & Food Care Ontario, Farm & Food Care Prince Edward Island, Agriculture in the Classroom Canada, Canadian Centre for Food Integrity and a host of other farmer and food organizations across Canada. This project is supported through the AgriCompetitiveness Program under the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership, a federal-provincial-territorial initiative.
As part of our commitment to providing accurate and valuable information to consumers and stakeholders, we have established a National Advisory Group. The purpose of this group is to provide strategic advice, insights, and recommendations to Canadian Food Focus to enhance its effectiveness in communicating about Canadian food and agriculture.
