  3. Learn How to Sprout Lentils

Sprouting lentils at home is easy. All you need is a mason jar with a lid, a cheesecloth and dry lentils. Sprouted lentils allow for the nutrients to be easily digested and absorbed by the body.

How to Sprout Lentils

  1. Add 1 cup (250 mL) of dried lentils lentils in the mason jar.
  2. Cover the jar’s mouth with cheesecloth or a thin piece of screening. Screw on the ring top over the cheesecloth or mess to hold it in place. Run cool water through the cheesecloth to fill up the jar, swirl the water to rince the lentils and then pour out the water. Add more water to fill up the mason jar. Let it sit overnight so the dried seeds absorb water.
  3. The next day drain the jar thoroughly and rinse the lentils again with lots of cool water. Drain thoroughly and let rest on your couter out of direct sunlight. Repeat this process at least two more times through out the day making sure to drain thoroughly each time. Do not let the lentils sit in water. The lentils should start to sprout after a day or so.
  4. Continue rinsing and draining the lentils al least twice a day until the sprouts are about ½ inch (1 cm) long with small green leaves forming on the ends. It usually take about three to four days. Now you can remove the cheesecloth or mesh and add the lid to the mason jar. Store them in the refrigerator for about 4 to 5 days.
