Sprouting lentils at home is easy. All you need is a mason jar and the metal ring, cheesecloth and dried lentils. Place the following steps for sprouting lentils in order:
-
C. Add 1 cup (250 mL) of dried lentils to a mason jar.
-
E. Remove the cheesecloth and add the lid to the mason jar. Store in the refrigerator.
-
B. Run cool water through the cheesecloth to fill up the jar, swirl the water to rinse the lentils and pour out the water. Add water to fill up the mason jar. Let it sit overnight so the dried seeds absorb water.
-
F. Cover the jar’s mouth with cheesecloth. Screw on the ring top over the cheesecloth to hold it in place.
-
A. Continue rinsing and draining the lentils at least twice a day until the sprouts are about 1/2 inch (1 cm) long with small green leaves forming on the ends.
-
D. The next day drain the jar thoroughly and rinse the lentils again with lots of cool water. Drain thoroughly and let rest on your counter out of direct sunlight. Repeat this process at least two more times throughout the day.
