rinse chickpeas

Using Canned or Frozen Chickpeas

  1. Chickpeas From Farm to Table
  2. Chickpeas in the Kitchen
  3. Using Canned or Frozen Chickpeas

For both canned or frozen chickpeas, just give them a rinse in a colander with cool water and then add them to your recipes.

Rinsing canned chickpeas well will remove a significant amount of sodium and help to remove the thick fluid which contains oligosaccharides (these are sugars that are the gas-forming culprits!). Frozen chickpeas are already low in sodium and rinsing will help to defrost them.

Canned chickpeas keep well stored in a dry, cool place and can be stored for several years.

After chickpeas have been cooked, drained and rinsed, they can be frozen in an airtight container for up to 6 months.
