Canada is rich in food and incredible people who help put food on our tables. This has never been more apparent than in 2021 as we remember our friend Anita Stewart: cookbook author, food laureate, champion of Canadian farmers, chefs and cooks, culinary activist and founder of Food Day Canada. Thank you Anita for being our guiding light and for all you have done to shine a light on the great food grown and prepare here!
In honour of Anita, Canadian farmers, chefs and cooks are inviting Canadians to come together to enjoy our Canadian cuisine and give thanks to the people who make it happen on Food Day Canada, Saturday July 31st, 2021. Take the pledge to Cook, Dine and Eat like a Canadian!
What is Food Day Canada?
Food Day Canada is our nation’s largest and longest-running celebration of Canadian food. It’s an opportunity for all Canadians to show their support for our chefs, farmers, fishers and producers, and to celebrate the culinary diversity of Canadian food. Founded in 2003, FDC is an opportunity for Canadians to talk about our regional and national food systems and showcase Canadian ingredients, producers, and culinary prowess. It’s also a day to explore ideas of food sovereignty and food security, in recognition that we still have work to do in our communities, and on a national level.
Who?
Anyone and everyone who loves Canadian ingredients. Chefs, home cooks, farmers, ranchers, fishers, writers, winemakers, brewers, food processors, researchers…and the list goes on.
When?
ALL Day Saturday July 31st, 2021
Where?
Anywhere and everywhere. Backyard barbecues, picnics, potlucks, patios and kitchen tables. In person and online. Enjoy Canadian-grown, Canadian-made food and drinks!
